They don't really even stay out - just kind of slide back and forth freely (might be a good thing after seeing my son try and slash us...). It also seems to be pretty flimsy and cheaply made. Hopefully it doesn't break after a couple months, but I do not have high hopes. My son loves it though, so I guess that's a review enough in itself.</span>
