I built this set after finishing the Viking Village. I enjoyed it, but have to give the edge to the Vikings. For the money, think the Viking kit is a better value. This is a fun set, but the roofs get on your nerves a bit.

Good looking exterior…not so hot interior
The exterior of this set is very pleasing, but I was hoping for something similar to the blacksmith house with the interior. Everything feels very cramped and repetitive. I mostly have these sets as displays but if I want to interact the floors are not able to disconnect and they are very tight to get your hands in. The doorway on the red house is too small to even barely fit a minifig though and the stairs leading up to the tower are also too narrow. The single level houses are far better, like the cheese shop, simple yet a pleasing amount of detail. The exterior though is fantastic, this set really adds to the medieval atmosphere on my shelf.

Good, but not excellent
We need more medieval sets like this one to build our medieval castles and kingdoms. It is yes a great set in terms of architecture, but not in terms of minifigures. I gave 3 stars out of 5 purely because, in my opinion, there is a serious lack of animals in this set. Also, the minifigures are a bunch of reused mixed and matched body parts. The minifig choice is ok, but not excellent. The minifigures could have been a lot better for the price tag.

Falling short in the design application
I like the idea of the set and the features of the various artisans was wonderful but the overall build is very disappointing for the price of the set. For display or for play there needs to be consistency in the design. A standard door way and walkways is 4 studs wide this build was designed with some doors being the standard 4 but then the tower nad the red house is changed to only 2 wide for the steps and the door. The door looks more like an ironing board than a pass through. For the price of the set the proper measurements for the stairs and doorways could have been done correctly. Also the ceiling heights are the same way in one building it would be the proper height the. In another only a child Lego figure can be placed in the room. These lazy building techniques are acceptable for a small set but when it get to be over the hundred dollar range you owe it to the customer to not cheap out.
