My 17-month-old son really enjoyed this toy; the vibrant colors instantly drew his attention, and it&rsquo;s clearly designed to withstand toddler play. Despite some rough treatment, including a few tosses, it held up well, showing that it&rsquo;s built with durability in mind. The dump truck feature was a big hit, keeping him entertained as he loaded and dumped the included &ldquo;boulders.&rdquo; The interactive elements, like the songs, add to the fun without being overly loud or repetitive, which is a relief for parents. The songs are upbeat and enjoyable, adding just the right amount of background fun without becoming annoying. He enjoys taking it outside and filling up the bed of truck with things he finds outside such as rocks and leaves. When you press the red lever it releases the dump bed and makes noise. It's rugged enough for outdoor play and it accompanies him outdoors to help clear leaves off the lawn or move gravel on the driveway. A big red lever tips the truck's dump bed, releasing the two plastic boulders that are included or whatever your child decides would make a good payload. The truck talks for itself and its driver Little People figure with a few pre-programmed phrases and vehicle noises and even short songs, which my child enjoyed singing along with. However, it's very much a toy that encourages creative play and participation rather than passive watching; your child has to provide the movement and decide what job the truck is assigned to today. The truck is pretty substantial by Little People standards - about 10 inches long and 6.5 inches high. The vehicle is well made and the dumping bed has been able to withstand the machinations of my rambunctious 3 year old. And, as will all Little People toys, the people and the vehicles are interchangeable with your other Little People figures and sets. The hidden star of the show here is actually the sounds of the vehicles. Most Little People vehicles generally make a few sounds triggered by pressing on the driver. A few vehicles have an additional action that can generate another sound of two. For whatever reason Fisher-Price went all out with the audio on this truck. The dumping lever rotates through no less than 10 completely different sounds. The sounds vary from different loads being dumped (dirt, glass, etc.), to songs, and to my son's favorite a declaration of &quot;Boulder Crash!&quot;. They then continued to add more audio by having the driver's seat generate another 5 different pieces of audio. This is by far the most audio we have every gotten out of a Little People vehicle. His favorite feature was the dumping function. Not only do you get to use the lever on the side to dump but it also makes construction sounds. The size of the truck is great too, not too big and not too small. It has a super cute face on the front as well as a cute little construction worker. One thing that would have been helpful would have been a locking mechanism to keep the dumper in place for hauling times. We had a little frustration when he would bump the lever while driving accidentally dumping the load too early. We love the color and the additional phrases and sounds when putting the driver in the seat. This truck also seems like it will last a long time even with outside play. It actually has some weight to it unlike other plastic toulys and the plastic it thick and not flimsy at all. With this purchase we will definitely be getting the other trucks in the line like the trash truck and fire truck.
