He is really into exploration and will bring his set outside and pretend he is finding bones. Opening and hiding things inside of the rock keeps him busy, His favorite part is the pretend bug inside of the amber. When the toy first arrived, my 3 1/2 year old seemed really interested in it and played with it right after opening the box. However, he hasn&rsquo;t touched it since. I think the 3+ rating on the box is too old for the toy, yet the pieces are too small for younger toddlers. For the most part, everything in this set is made of a thick felt material and will only stand up when two other pieces of felt are lined up at the bottom to create a stand. There isn&rsquo;t much you can do with the dinosaurs and they will fall over if they are being pushed across the floor, as the stand doesn&rsquo;t actually attach in any way. I think that is why my son lost interest so quickly. I supposed you could burry them in a sandbox and &ldquo;dig&rdquo; them up with the little felt brush that it comes with but the sand would stick to the felt and they would get pretty dirty. The pieces are soft and it's fun to put the pieces around and let them &quot;dig&quot; it up. I think if the pieces were hard you'd be able to bury them in sand, which might be more fun for the kids. But overall it's a cute toy for little dinosaur lovers and it keeps them entertained for a bit. I typically make up some kind of sensory bin related to what we are studying for my kindergartener. So, since I was given this I decided to make a Dinosaur dig using this and some sand we already had. My kindergartener loved this activity and spent at least an hour everyday playing in it during school. My 3rd grade son even got his hands in it and seemed to enjoy playing with it! He loves dinosaurs but he wasn&rsquo;t impressed with this set. It&rsquo;s very cute, but the &ldquo;fossils&rdquo; are very flimsy and there is no clear indication as to what you are supposed to do with the rock/eggs. We tried to put the puzzle in it but the pieces wouldn&rsquo;t fit. The Amber is very cool and he liked that and the tools. So far he has had no interest in playing with it. I think if the dinosaurs were plastic pieces you could burry in a sandbox and actually dig up it would be much more user friendly. Also if there was either another piece of Amber or something similar to dig out of the egg/rock.
