It has withstood being played with for hours by my 2 year old and 4 year old for the past couple of weeks and after all the wall hitting and falling off of the table, it doesn&rsquo;t have any noticeable scratches. We love the little trailer that attaches to the back, they love taking it on and off. We love that you can use with any thomas track! And also that you can play with it without a track if you really want too! They have played with ever since we recieved it, even took it in the car with them to make the it talk to their other thomas trains. I also have an 8 year old son and he really likes it too! All in all i woukd definitely recommend this for both age groups! The quality of the train is very good and a great size. Although the size is great, we did notice that some of the bridges we had from a previous Thomas and Friends train track were too low for Emily to clear. That being said the kids preferred the size of Emily to the other trains they have. Emily moves quite fast which the kids loved. She moves around the track faster than the other trains they have so it became a fun game to race Emily and Thomas trains around the track. Emily is easy to operate and comes with an extra cargo cart that is pulled behind her with ease. You can also attach other carts from other Thomas and Friends sets to Emily with no issues. The train can also move on tie and carpet if they want to play off of a track. The train zips by on hard surfaces, we do not have tracks but this is a start to the collection. Emily is all plastic but durable, not loud, and the quality of details (like her face) are superior to other toy trains. However the issue we are running into is that she cannot go up the hills the kids build. Otherwise, Emily is a great addition to our train set, and she drives the fastest of any of the trains we own. My boys like to race their trains down our hallway and Emily is usually the winner. Emily is built well and the battery compartment is easily accessible with a screwdriver. We're not into Thomas in our house and neither the box or the instructions says anything about using it on tracks, so I thought it was a stand-alone toy. Once my kids started playing with it, they remarked that it only goes straight and we realized what it was meant to be used for. The box says for ages 3+ and its definitely for that group - the on/off switch is a lever on top. My kindergarten aged child enjoyed playing with it without tracks, but the older elementary kids were over it in a second (as expected). They did note that you can play with it on our tile floor, although you have to tap it with your finger to get it to change direction. They also said its hard to get the on/off level to fully engage since it starts moving the second you push it. My daughter immediately noticed the deep green color (her favorite is green nowadays) and mention the number in the second cart. She started playing with Emily, the train, and is also been trying to figure out how it moves and hauls the second cart. This train material is really smooth and seems sturdy and durable. The quality in the paint and details is amazing. And one of the best characteristics of this train is that is motorized&hellip; bringing so much more fun. It just need two batteries. Emily works great with the other Thomas and Friends tracks. My kids love that she also runs off the track as well. She does not come with batteries but they are easy enough to add in. She is built well and can handle a drop or two. The cars attach easily and come apart easily and are interchangeable with other trains. My kids love how easy the on off switch is especially for little hands. If she does not get shut off she will just keep running until the batteries die.
