Even a younger child could understand and operate it. Every now and then the one remote gets hung up and hiccups but it's still very playable. But that's why I didn't give it a full five stars. The kids think it's hilarious when the heads pop off after two chest shots. Do not you'll need a boatload of batteries (6 AA and 4 AAA). They are very neat looking and fun to press the button and make their heads pop off which is what my child did while I put in the many batteries this toy requires. Make sure you have both triple and double A on hand and a lot of them. After we finally got it set up it took quite a while to figure out the remote controls. The buttons are strange and hard to use especially for small hands and fingers. This toy is a lot of fun if you can get the hang of it. My kids are having a lot of fun with it, battling each other. It is very fun when one of the robot gets hit in the chest as the mini guy just ejects from the robot body. The only thing I have to point out is that the robot can be a bit hard to control with the remote, and it did take some practice time to get comfortable with it. As an adult opening this package, it was super easy so I was relieved. I didn&rsquo;t have to cut a bunch of stuff off. There were two zip ties on the side and then the bottom had 4 easy twist locks. We have 4 kids and our 8 and 10 year old got a kick out of hitting each others robots. He will need two sets of 3 AA and two sets of 2 AAA batteries for each robot / controller. The robots are pretty sturdy so with kids playing, this toy set should last. There&rsquo;s not really instructions that come with it, but it&rsquo;s not hard to figure out. The overall concept of the game is for one player to hit the other robot twice in a specific spot on the robots body and tell the robots head (which is just a smaller guy inside) pops off. Now this part we all thought this was pretty funny. Which is why I think we played with it for quite some time. We tested on tile and hardwood which are both much better than our low pile area rugs. They still move on the area rugs just a little bit slower. As for moving, it&rsquo;s more of a shimmy/wiggle back-and-forth to go forward and backwards, not a straight back/forth. I wouldn&rsquo;t expect them to go racing towards the other like other toys these days, these just have a little bit slower response. These bots each come with a remote, and each robot cones equipped with a pilot inside. Robots are simple to maneuver utilizing the controls, and the idea is to hit your opponents chest plate two times (releasing the robots pilot). I love that using these robots is intuitive, as my 6 and 8-year old can easily utilize this toy themselves. You can place the robot in single-player mode to practice. Although both the remote and bots require batteries, these robots have not yet died after many uses. The robots look really cool and my kids couldn't wait to open up the package. The remote controls are easy to use: Basic left/right, forward/back and left/right/combo punch options. The instructions were clear enough that my kids (5 and 9) could easily operate them. The gameplay is really fun, even though it doesn't require much in the way of strategy. The objective of hitting your opponent twice in the chest plate to knock off their head is easy for kids to understand. It's a great way for my kids to compete against each other and develop their hand-eye coordination skills. The bots work best on flat flooring, which is perfect for our living room. While they may struggle on carpeted areas, this hasn't detracted from our overall enjoyment. Overall, these RC robots have been a fun toy my family. It's addictive to play against each other and has provided hours of entertainment for my kids.
