The hammer is just used to break open a little cardboard piece inside the plastic safes. The toys inside were thinks like slime, a plastic ring, some googly eye stickers... Overall, I wouldn't purchase again. The package came with 5 safe's that each contained a surprise in them, along with the hammer used to break the safe's open with. Once he had them out of the packaging he immediately grabbed the hammer and began to smash them open in excitement to find what was hidden inside. The safe's took a good hit to break them open, but once he realized that with the first one he was smashin' the rest open with ease. They all contained cute surprises that my son enjoys. He is a big fan of Ryan and I was excited for him to get it. From the pictures on the packaging it looked like the safes were going to be reusable but that is not really the case. To get to the prize you has to smash a thin piece of paper with the provided hammer. The paper either tore or came completely off while smashing it, making it so you couldn't hide anything in there again. Some of the doors of the safes came off and you couldn't put them back on and after all the safes were smashed there wasn't really any reason to keep them anymore. The prizes inside were ok. Some were great, like the slime, and others just seemed cheap, like the one googly eye. The idea of not knowing what was inside of the safes and needing to use a mini hammer to break them open, made my kids wild with excitement. They were easy to pop open. But once opened, my kids were extremely disappointed. The prizes are a complete let down and they were over it as soon as they found the prizes. The toy wasn&rsquo;t played with again. The thrill was exciting, so I gave this toy 2 stars. The blocks and hammer are well made but I've got to say he was a little disappointed with a few toys. Some of them come in gumball machines so I feel as if they could have given better toys. The toys inside were just kind of cheesy in my opinion , slap hand, googly eyes, plastic Gus ring, something that might be slime (but has no label), and a Ryan figure. My daughter constantly watches unboxing videos and surprise bag videos. So getting this was a real treat for her. Upon getting it,it comes with a few boxes and a plastic hammer. At first I was confused why there was a hammer. But there was a pretty cool reason. You open up each safe and there is a mystery decaled cardboard in it. That's where the hammer comes in. You give it a good whack and in each safe is a surprise toy. It's pretty neat and goes the extra mile in the experience. My daughter loved it. My husband wishes you can keep reapplying and breaking through the cardboard so you can keep having a surprise safe. Something you yourself can put a surprise in and keep opening it. However, smasher products should be easy for children to use. The object of these safes it to hit only the paper cover inside the door of the safe with a light weight hammer, which there is a picture of. The product could use simple instructions like remove safe door, smash paper on box, so that families won't think the entire box can be smashed to pieces. The hammer is not very helpful even with the paper top.
