Beautiful Detail, but extremely fragile!
I was very excited about this purchase. It was a reward for me. The detail is very good! What is not good is the very minimal and poor connections for the long side pieces. There are several opportunities for connections but none were taken. These side pieces will almost fall off if you look at them too hard. LOL! I have constructed several Lego sets and this is such a disappointment. If you want this set just understand that it is to look at only. I moved it a few times and parts fell off during two of the moves, and I am very careful! Had I known what I know now I would have passed this one up!

Pretty low quality
As a person who built room full of lego ranging from star wars, marvel, cars, buildings, small and big project, technic, i have shirts of Lego- a big fan of Lego- the xwing has been the most frustrating piece of lego i ever built. It stood on the table for over two months waiting to be put together because the patience to deal with poor design (putting together, not visually) and the will werent there. A lot of pieces are flimsy, you push one in, the other one falls out because pieces are holding onto just a few "dots/stubs" (not sure the proper name) on another lego. The nose of the x wing is more likely to fall apart than hold together (after i checked it a few times for a mistake in case i put it together wrong).... i got the feeling that it is cheap and that that it needed to be done with as little as possible parts, because what used to be sturdy and "secure" in older lego builds, where even if you dropped it- it would hold together.... its not the case with this one. Hopefully not all new lego series will be this poor and frustrating.
Just a few pics uploaded because i didnt take too many, but hope you get the point.

Also it really only stays in attack mode when built with wings spread from the weight.Just so you know what your getting into.

I purchased this x-wing after reading the reviews about the side panels falling off. I should have heeded the warnings. The side panels around the wing mounts do not stay on due to a poor design. Any time i move it it just falls apart in my hand. I purchased an aftermarket stand that I can't even use because the x-wing falls apart while I try to mount it. I have been building lego for decades and this is by far the most fragile set i ever owned.

Definitely buy it! It looks so cool in person!!

This build is an interesting one. Just the body of the ship is substantial and dense, you can tell it can take a hit or two. The wings on the other hand… I appreciate what they did and how they did it. The mechanism is simple yet effective but the actual wings are completely unstable and WILL break eventually if you actually use it. I rebuilt it just to make sure I didn’t mess up anything but the wings would not want to reliably stay on.

This is my first UCS set and I thoroughly enjoyed building it. I haven't had any parts fall off and I have moved it around quite a bit. I changed the stand slightly, as I have it displayed on a high shelf, so I turned the stand around and have it displayed sideways.
I knew the set was going to be big, but it really is BIG. The wings can be opened to attack position and locked like that, which is a nice touch. There is some really nice part usage in there.

This set forced me to sin
My girlfriend got me this set for Christmas. The first few steps of the build are very solid and the main chassis feels very solid. The wing mechanism, while smart, is not strong enough for the weight of the wings. It uses 2 rubber bands that are simply too weak, making the set look very goofy if not in its attack configuration. The side panels of the fuselage are where the set litteraly falls apart. After 2 hours of trying, we were never able to place both panels at the same time. The choice of bricks used to hold those things together is absolutely baffling. A total of 4 studs to hold a diagonal 12 inch piece is ridiculous. After 2 hours, we decided to commit the worst act of our Lego career: Using glue. It felt horrible. I’ve never felt dirtier in my entire life. At least I can actually pick it up now. Also, Luke can not sit in the ship. The minifig, while very detailed, is too tall and the cockpit won’t close (and there are no studs on the seat to hold him). Last things, We were missing 4 pieces for the stands. Ironically, they’re the pieces that everyone complains about because they keep breaking apparently. Maybe we dodged a bullet. Anyways, overall very disappointed in this set. It was my very first UCS set and from now on I will thoroughly research every set before I buy. It looks good tho.

First of all, I was missing a piece on the stand. However, knowing lego’s reputation, I expect to have it replaced since it wasn’t on the actual fighter, but on the stand. I’m a 32 year old and this is my second Lego set I’ve ever built. I’m a huge Star Wars fan and saw this after watching the original trilogy on tv over Christmas and I had to get it. The flimsiness comments are from either people that try to speed build or don’t know how to follow directions. It’s a model for 18+, so if you’re playing with a model as an 18 year old, you may need to reevaluate your situation. If your kid wants to play with it, don’t let them, there are instructions at the front of the manual on how to hold the model correctly. Again, follow instructions and panels won’t fall off as others have said. Kind of funny seeing Lego snobs complain about this, clear indication they just speed build their sets. It’s a beautiful set and the engineering on it is amazing. Kudos to Lego designers, don’t know how they do this stuff.

Disappointed! I have never had so many missing and damaged pieces. Lego says they will replace pieces but that is of little comfort when I must be the one to contact them.
I already have buyers remorse when spending this much money on Lego’s and this set is sagging flimsy and will have to be placed in a case to prevent someone walking too briskly past it and having it come apart. They should have recalled all of them when reports of this many unhappy builders. I hope the USC sets don’t continue to suffer with QC issues.
As in the photo the canopy is warped beyond repair, the missing pieces I happen to have in abundance but the canopy is a special piece that will have to come from LEGO which again is a real bummer since I have to do all the work for a replacement part.

I was waiting for Lego to release a new X-Wing for quite some time and was pretty excited for the build. They missed the mark with this build. The bases used for the helmets are far superior than the base used for this model. The wings don’t stay up without assistance on the completed build. I know a lot of people complain about the panels not being secure and falling off; this wasn't a problem for me, but I was handling the model carefully. The real issue is the wing mechanism which has only one technic brick per wing for support. This is a major design flaw as it causes the wings to sag and twist. However, once I excitedly started the build process, I was quickly very frustrated. Every single panel on the fuselage would not stay on. Every connection is extremely weak and every time you try to add onto the build, another part falls off. I spent HOURS rebuilding and reattaching every panel only for them to fall off again later in the building process. Great set. I read some reviews about build quality and how fragile this set was and almost didn't buy it, but decided to give it a go because it's LEGO and they in my experience make good stuff.
After receiving this and starting building I found I had none of the issues described in other reviews.
The wings don't sag, the engines are straight and the panels seem to be quite sturdy. I do admit that I only have it as a static display and don't play with it or fly it around but even during the building process I found everything very easy.
If you are like me and on the fence about this set I would say grab it. It's fun and looks amazing when built.

Poorly designed
Purchased this product over a year ago. It still sits on my entertainment stand, unfinished. The back panels near where the wings are is nigh impossible to put on. They’re medium sized pieces held by two sockets. You can get one side on but trying to get the other side on you just pop the others off. I’ve read it only gets worse as you build. I should have read reviews better prior to purchasing. I likely should’ve asked for a refund but I can assume too much time has passed. I’d also like to add though that this is my first purchasing issue with Lego as a brand. Unfortunate situation nonetheless

Avoid at all costs, sadly
I really wanted to like this set, but it is easily one of the most frustrating building experiences I've had. As others have mentioned, the side panels of the X-wing constantly fall off and have to be put back on. Pieces fall off when you try to put others back on. This set costs way to much to be this flimsy! Avoid it at all costs :(

Worst build ever.
This build is absolutely awful. The side panels of the body of the ship barely stay on and if they come off they're a nightmare to reattach, especially once the wings are in place. The base came apart and collapsed and a ton of stuff fell off, and I would need to rebuild the entire set to fix it. Don't waste your money. I'm a diehard Lego fan but this was an absolutely horrible experience.

Great look, but limp wings
The overall design of the ship is very nice looking, but the wings really ruin it. The engines look a little too big in my opinion, but most of the problems are with the wing design. It sags, so you cant display it with the wings closed. The wings are slightly crooked, because the back part of the engine tilts them. The single rubber band used to hold the wings is not sufficient, especially given that the older smaller sets used 2 per wing. The set will not age well as the wings continue to sag.
