The model itself is fantastic, but even with my sky high expectations, what I didn't expect was how fun the build experience was. It starts with the base, which is already very large. Then you add a boom to extend to the back that almost doubles the length, and then the wings that are each almost as long as the ship itself! The experience of over time realizing over and over just how ginormous the model is was very satisfying and enjoyable. The instructions were also very intelligently designed. Almost every step adds just 2-6 pieces. That makes it much easier to keep going and gives the build momentum, which really helps with such a lengthy build. It was like the Lego version of a page turner! I couldn't stop building! In 25 years of building lego sets, I've never had as much fun building a set as I did with the UCS Republic Gunship. It took me a while to save up, but when the opportunity came to buy it, I took it. And, this is the first time I ever feel a review is warranted for a set. This is my first UCS build, but I have been building other expert-level sets for a while. I have years of set-building experience. But, I am not exaggerating here, this was the absolute WORST set I have ever built. Actually, I can't even finish it, every time I try to finish it, I put one part on, and another pops off. This is, without a doubt, the worst-designed set I have ever had the misfortune of purchasing. It is over-engineered, relying on a very thin, very fragile skeletal structure, and way too many angles and technic pieces. It was extremely fragile to build, every time I put a part down, the whole thing shook or slid. Nothing would stay together. I couldn't finish it, because the doors would always come off (no reinforcements) the main body would start falling apart at the slightest pressure, and you would need three hands in order to hold the thing so you could put pieces on. It was back-heavy, and fell over just by looking at it. If I could get my money back, I would! With that in mind, I still consider the build's instability to be a huge issue. Simply transporting it can lead to the bottom breaking or the top of it as well. The sheer size of it alone makes the build difficult to find space for, but its weight isn't supported strongly enough. Based off past Republic gunships, I think something smaller would be ideal because a ship like this is something that should be a play set. A better lego set I think would be something like the AT-TE. If this set was at that price/size, and had 5 clone troopers instead of the one we got, I think the set would be a way more popular set. If you're on the fence about buying this set, only buy it if you intend to keep it in one spot it's whole life. Otherwise, your money would be better spent on multiple smaller sets. My personal favourite is the AT-TE, or the small fighter tank with Mace Windu. There is also a rumored Republic Gunship set, but that one would likely be a corusant guard version so not as versitle for mocks. I picked up the gunship at a nice discount and after finishing it, I love it. The build itself was relatively straightforward with a technic structure to basically hold all the pieces together. In terms of scale, this thing is massive, and I love it! Sure it&rsquo;s a bit hard to display, but I&rsquo;ll figure it out. The final build itself is strong and sturdy, it&rsquo;s almost as sturdy as a minifig scale model, which is again fairly impressive given its size. This is in contrast to the Falcon, where I had massive problems transporting it to my upstairs office. There are two small negative parts of the gunship. The first is there is no interior whatsoever. With the side doors being open, it looks a bit incomplete. The second is that I wish the rear hatch was more detailed. I see in other reviews about minifigs, and if that is your thing then maybe there is a bit of disappointment. For me, I&rsquo;m buying sets for display in my office and it does not disappoint. I've gotten to the teens in bag numbers both times, and parts just keep flying whenever I go to reposition the build to put on a new part. I've had to order replacement parts 2 times, for pieces that were not included in the box but are required for the set, already and it still is unknown how many more I will need to order just to complete it in it's final 3 bags. Super disappointed in this one, I have bought almost every UCS set from the millennium falcon onwards and this is a winner for the worst set only to surpass the star destroyer by hair; which also fell to pieces after the stand collapsed while transporting the set. It is without a doubt my favourite ever. The build experience is fantastic. As someone who doesn't particularly enjoy sets with lots of small pieces, this set is a joy to build. The sheer size of the set is also amazing, and absolutely makes it worth the price with its presence in a room. The positives for me are HUGE ship, iconic, and over 3000 pieces so kept me busy for awhile. My drawbacks are the wing covers (really confusing to build that section and instructions were vague at best) and so many spots unpolished. The ship is SMOOTH on the wings and sides in movies yet we don&rsquo;t use smooth Lego cover pieces? Seems like a huge miss or cost saving miss to me. Also, 1 clone trooper is sad to me. Mace windu is awesome but this should&rsquo;ve been Yoda and 4 clone troopers to man the turrets. Now, due to some of the negative reviews, I was a bit skeptical to purchase this over the Razor Crest UCS for this May the 4th sale. I bit the laser from Rex's blaster, and boy am I glad i bought this! This build is superb! I am taking my time building it, and some of the negative reviews should be taken back, because they clearly cannot think outside the box... *gApS?!* *SpAcEs?*... take your time building this behemoth, and you will not be disappointed having this legendary ship as part of your collection. Oh and one more controversial thing... I like the Phantom Menance so take this review with what you will.
