The Engine has to be put together piece by piece teaching kids all the pieces that goes into building an entire engine. My son absolutely loved helping put it together. Once it is all together it looks just as a real engine would look and once you plug the lights and the other wire into the battery pack the engine comes to life and shows kids how the inside of the engine works once a car is started. It was very difficult. Our first attempt we got to almost the last step and realized we had put the first two pieces together in the wrong orientation. I then took over, took it apart completely and did it all by myself. And even then it didn&rsquo;t work properly. Very disappointing to put that much effort and then fail. I am actually very good at putting toys and gadgets together so this was very surprising. We were building it as a family and one thing we immediately noticed were the screws that came with it. For one, they were too small. Even an 8 yr old kid's fingers will find it still to be too small. Then the screw head was easily worn even when using the driver that came with the package. Two, the parts were so little and difficult to build. I do not know if it was designed to mimic the real engine but if it were, I am impress on how much thought and energy was put into it to really make it like the real one. My complaint would be when you are on your way to do the next step and you are not careful, you could lose some parts inside the case and then you have to disassemble again and restart. It wouldn't be a problem if the screw heads weren't worn off and will be easy to unscrew. example, we were doing step 11 but the Timing Cam on the Long shift got loosen and were off so I had to redo it but I cannot now because I cannot unscrew it. So that will delay the assembling process. This Kit has 104 pieces and is a mini replica of a classic 4 cycle gasoline car engine. All of my grandson's questions were answered by building this with his own hands and seeing how all of the parts work together to make the engine operate. He loves seeing the moving parts, (crank shaft rotates the pistons, valves open and close, belt moves the fan, spark plugs glow with LED light). The kit comes with all the tools and pieces necessary as well as easy to follow instructions and includes cables and a battery pack as an energy source. My grandson was helping his dad diagnose engine problems when he was much younger but now he actually knows how each part effects the engine operation! A few times we had to backtrack on the instructions and we had to unscrew the screw a few times. They stripped and it was hard to get out. I had to call in some help from Papa because I was not sure how things should look. Papa having knowledge of engines was much better at helping my boys put together this amazing &quot;toy&quot;. I suggest having someone that knows what things should look like to help build this model. If I had not gotten help from my dad im not sure we would have finished this. My kids LOVE it and feel very proud when it was finished. Our son has always been interested in the &ldquo;big&rdquo; trucks (aka semi&rsquo;s) and he is so curious about daddy&rsquo;s work. So when I saw this I had to get it. This thing is super cool when it&rsquo;s all said and done. You get to see the gears turning and how everything works together to make the engine run. I will however say that this comes with a lot of parts...a lot. There are a ton of tiny little screws so this might be better for an older kid versus my 6 year old. It&rsquo;s one of awesome educational Stem toy. My 11yr old son really enjoying building it. It&rsquo;s fun building and I am helping him too as he needed some help figuring it out on connecting the engine. He is fond of cars and other automotives so he really enjoying assembling it. This gives the real hands on experience on this DIY mini replica of a classic four cycle internal combustion gasoline car engine in one set. It&rsquo;s a perfect gift for any child who is 8+. Helps keeping kids away from playing mobile games. They get to have a chance of exploring with pistons,cylinders,cranks, pulleys, belts, and exhaust valves to make this little gadget come to life right in front of their eyes! This kind of toys really encourages young boys and girls to expand there creativity also improves nice motor skills. This needs lots of patience as it consumes much time.
