The build does require adult assistance; I recommend assembling the engine with a parent and kid team for best results. There are a lot of small parts, along with intricate positioning. The result is incredible to look at; I set the completed engine on the shelf in my son&rsquo;s room where he can look at it all the time, while knowing he built it! When the motor starts, the whole projects comes together and we watched in awe as the motor spun and whirled. I highly recommend this engine STEM project; my son has become enthralled with building engines as a result of this model kit. This is awesome as a great bonding experience between the both of us. There are a lot of parts and it can be overwhelming when the box is opened, but I would recommend keeping all of the parts and tools organized before beginning. The step by step instructions are easy to understand. We dedicated about an hour of work a night for a month or so to complete it and the end result was great. The instructions are fairly straightforward, and took my 12 year old and I about 2.5 hours to complete. The overall quality could have been a bit better- I found that the plastic was a bit thin, and some of the screws were difficult to tighten. There is also no on/off switch, and you need to put in and take out the connectors yourself. Additionally, it&rsquo;s pretty loud when turned on. Everything we buy come with such clearly labeled packages and parts. From murphy bed (2 hrs) to legos (depends on kit, but usually an hour or less), every package and part is clearly labeled. this engine should have been easy as pie, yet with non-clearly labeled parts, slightly confusing directions, after 1.5 hours we realized we had built it backwards... not to mention all the tiny screws are in the same little bag! This STEM activity opens so many doors to conversations about how engines work. The model kit was easy to assemble. It did have some challenges, but nothing we couldn't handle. The directions were easy to follow. The directions are on a poster-sized fold-out with simple sentences and detailed pictures. It does require some elbow grease for all the screws. It comes with everything you need except two double AA batteries. It also comes with a good amount of extra screws and two extra belts. Your kid will get a workout and a great understanding of how you have to move around an engine and all its complexities of hand-eye coordination. It's for ages eight and up. My child is a gifted six-year-old, and we assembled it with ease. It took us about four and half hours in total. It has over one hundred custom parts. It has a clear design, so you can see the engine in all its glory and how it works. You can watch the valves open and close, watch the crankshaft spin and the spark plugs light up. This four-stroke combustion engine assembly will be something that will make a lasting impression. I will say for starters while the ages are 8+ definitely think and the younger side of that might have issues putting together themselves even with two adults we ended up still mixing up pieces and have to go back and take it apart several times. Otherwise as working with a family it was definitely fun, we let our son sort the pieces and put in the screws with the little screw driver it came with, and we worked together to fit the pieces in. I also like that this had plenty of extra screws because they were so tiny they were easy to loose but they provided A ton of them for that reason. The directions were pretty easy to follow though I think if they labels the sides it would have made it slightly easier to follow because some of the pieces looks similar but then had to go back because we realized we put two pieces backwards but luckily if mistakes where made it was pretty quick to put it back together. My son was so excited to plug the lights and engines in at the end and he was super happy with the results of the engine it ended up working perfectly and he seemed to have a lot of fun putting it together with us for a fun family bonding time. An improvement would be to have a booklet format with more text and to have the bags labeled with what parts are inside - there are a LOT of parts. We're creatives, not mechanics, so your experience may vary. It took my 13 year old grandson approximately 4 hours to put this together but he enjoyed it and he learned all the parts of the engine. This project takes time and patience. But the end results is awesome . The instructions are very detailed and very helpful in putting this together. This model is just like a real engine. It has a turning crankshaft, valves,and spark plugs and a rotating fan. The spark plugs have LED lights that's lights up. This comes with a magnetic screwdriver in case you drop the screws it makes it easy to grab hold of them. This is a great product for boys or girls . I like the way it is interactive and keeps your kids interested in what they are building. I like how the model has functioning parts and gets your kids excited about what they have just built . It's fun to do with them and enjoyable to see them use their minds to stay sharp . Little did I know the older teen kids in my family liked this just as much. I like how everything is labeled. Not as messy as I was expecting. Comes with extra screws in case you lose a couple. I will say that the plastic material is not the sturdiest. Almost cheaplike. And it only requires 2 batteries overall. He was excited. The kit comes with 104 pieces and the instructions were easy to follow. We laid out the parts first and labeled them, which made it easier for us to put it together. It took us a total of three hours to build. The engine model kit is very educational, and he was very inquisitive. We talked about each part as we put it together, so he had a good understanding of how an engine works. The quality of the parts was good and easy to put together. Once built we put in the two AA batteries. He was impressed to see to all the parts working; valves open and close, spark plugs light up and pistons drive the crankshaft. I recommend this model engine kit.
